StubXploder and StubIntegrator

StubXploder (available now) and StubIntegrator (in development) are two products designed to address issues seen when using the Open Text eDocs DM document management system alongside the Symantec Enterprise Vault email archiving system.

StubXploder is designed to restore archived emails back into your eDocs Libraries while StubIntegrator will allow you to seemlessly open emails stored within the email vault from within eDocs DM.

Email filing is high on the agendas of most firms these days, and document management technology offerings provide powerful ways to categorise, and retrieve these emails quickly and efficiently. Equally high on the priority list is the need to maintain a streamlined email environment, with thousands of emails entering and leaving the system every few hours. Many companies have addressed the latter issue by implementing the Symantec Enterprise Vault system which moves emails from the corporate messaging system to a separate archive outside of your email system. The emails moved to the archive are then replaced with a small stub file which, when opened, retrieves the original email from the archive rather than your email system.

eDocs DM is a system used for the sharing of information, it allows security to be applied to documents in it's libraries. However, if this happens to be an archived email, the document security in DM will not match that of the archived email. When an archived email is opened from within DM, a problem occurs, as access to the email is denied where in an ideal world the security systems would match and the email would simply be opened.

This is where the StubXploder or StubIntegrator product steps in.

StubXploder is a fully server side solution which will restore archived emails from enterprise vault back into the DM libraries allowing you to effectivley decomission your Enterprise Vault solution. StubXploder is designed with the largest eDocs and Symantec deployments in mind so can easily handle a worldwide deployment or a single library and vault.

StubIntegrator will be a client side solution, which will intercept the opening of an email stub and load this email from the archive vault automatically while abiding by the security placed within your DM library. This leaves the email in the Enterprise Vault repository but integrates the two systems seemlessly.

When it is complete, StubIntegrator will have an interchangable licence with the StubXploder product allowing you to switch your implementation without the hassle of licence changes.

  • "... The implementation of bulk email filing within our Open Text eDocs environment meant that users were suddenly filing large numbers of historic messages to our document management system, a lot of these having already been archived to our Enterprise Vault system. Knowing that this would cause a problem, we engaged Iphelion to implement their StubXploder product to reconcile the archived emails back to the DM system and negating the inevitable flood of calls from users being unable to open their old messages. ..."
